Since April 2020, we have started a comprehensive collaboration with the Department of Physics, Graduate School of Science, the University of Tokyo. Through this initiative, we are collaborating in a variety of fields and deepening science through the fusion of cutting-edge physics and chemistry to create material innovation, which is part of our corporate philosophy, with the aim of exploring new theories and achieving results for social implementation. In conjunction with the start of the comprehensive collaboration, we have also established a fellowship for doctoral students to support the development of outstanding human resources, and we hope that the JSR Fellowship will provide a safe environment for doctoral students to conduct research and motivate them for the future.

We will continue to promote industry-academia co-creation through these initiatives, and focus on open innovation and social contribution.

*The University of Tokyo's shokumon Award

Since 2002, this award has been presented to individuals, corporations, or organizations that have made significant contributions to the development of the University of Tokyo's activities through private donations, volunteer activities, support, endowed courses, and endowed research departments. Shokumon is the name of the city gate of the capital of Sei (present-day Shandong Province) during the Warring States Period in China. The name of the award is based on the legend that King Xuan of Sei treated scholars well, which led to the gathering of wise men from all over the world and the flourishing of learning in the capital of Sei. The area around the Shokumon Gate was called "Shokuka" and since many scholars gathered there, the term "scholar under the Shoku" was coined. (Source: "Shiki")

In April 2020, JSR and the Department of Physics at the Graduate School of Science agreed on a comprehensive collaboration for the purpose of academic exploration of materials and development of new materials based on this exploration, and started joint research. In conjunction with this, we have received a donation to support the research and educational activities of the Department of Physics and to establish a fellowship (JSR Fellowship) for doctoral students. In addition, a part of the joint research expenses will be used to improve the facilities of the Faculty of Science, to hold international conferences planned by the Department of Physics, and to produce video materials to convey the appeal of cutting-edge physics to the general public in an easy-to-understand manner, thereby contributing to the university's original research and education activities. The donation will be used to support research and education, as well as to provide financial support for students, and was adopted based on the evaluation that it is making a significant contribution to the university.
