JSR Corporation Agrees to collaborate with Oxford Performance Materials, Inc.in fields of medical and dental applications

Corporate
JSR Corporation (JSR) is pleased to announce that it has agreed to collaborate with Oxford Performance Materials, Inc. (OPM) in medical devices business and dental prosthesis material business targeting the Asia market based on core technology of poly-ether-ketone-ketone (PEKK) resin.

As a part of novel value creation activities in the life sciences field, JSR has initiated development at JSR-Keio University Medical and Chemical Innovation Center (JKiC) by combining material technology and digital technology to realize individualized medicine. At this time, JSR and OPM have agreed to work in collaboration toward accelerating the implementation of PEKK technology to expand this business in the Asia market. JSR and OPM will found a company in Japan within this year, manufacturing and selling PEKK medical devices and PEKK dental prostheses and will start business operation in Q2, 2019.

OPM has focused on the specific physical properties of PEKK, which has good compatibility and affinity with living bone tissue. OPM has developed medical devices using PEKK resin using their OsteoFab® additive manufacturing technology. OPM has received FDA clearances for numerous products including a vertebral body replacement, spinal implant system and patient specific cranial and facial devices, which are already in use and implanted in many surgical operations and sites since 2013.

Through this collaboration, JSR will proceed and accelerate the implementation of PEKK medical devices, and will launch new businesses for the realization of medical innovation based on the strength of JSR technology, in collaboration with OPM.
