Tokyo, Japan - July 15, 2015 - JSR Corporation (President: Mitsunobu Koshiba) introduces the FABRIAL™ R series as the second of the FABRIAL™ brand series of 3D printing filaments at the 11th FAB LAB Conference and Symposium held in Massachusetts, USA. The R series are flexible filaments prepared with a material that has been used in various industries including medical fields.

FABRIAL™ R series filament and example printed items

Since 3D printing filaments are largely made of a hard material, there is demand for soft filaments to enhance the versatility of 3D printing in application and design. The FABRIAL™ R series is soft and flexible. It also feels smooth and is agreeable to the touch. The FABRIAL™ R series is prepared with a quality material that has proven itself in various fields, including medical applications, and has been tested for irritation and skin sensitization in accordance with ISO 10993-10 standards. To make the material suitable for fused filament fabrication 3D printing, improvements have been made, including making it odorless during printing and reducing the deformation of printed items resulting from thermal shrinkage.

The filament is a resin material used in the fused filament fabrication (FFF) 3D printing system. It is the focus of attention as a critical factor in the potential of 3D printing. To build three-dimensional items, various methods are used, including fused filament fabrication, stereolithography, powder bonding, powder sintering, ink-jet printing and cutting. Among the various systems available, FFF-based 3D printers are being promoted extensively, for both industrial and personal use. In January 2015, JSR announced the FABRIAL™ P series, featuring high tenacity, as the first of the FABRIAL™ brand of filament materials. The Company intends to continue developing specialty materials from the user’s perspective to explore the potential of 3D printing.
