JSR to enhance R & D of LCD materials in Korea - Construction of new research laboratory at JSR Micro Korea -
09/21/2010
TOKYO - 21 September 2010 - JSR Corporation (President: Mitsunobu Koshiba) has announced that JSR Micro Korea (a 100% subsidiary of JSR) will establish a new research laboratory. The facility will enhance the research and development function of liquid crystal display (LCD) materials, which are manufactured and sold at JSR Micro Korea. The laboratory is expected to be completed in June 2011, and the amount of investment such as establishment and installation of evaluation equipment is valued at approximately ¥600 million.
Korea has a major LCD panel market, with the world's number one and two manufacturers located there. Competition for LCD materials is also becoming increasingly fierce. In Korea thus far, laboratory facilities at JSR Micro Korea have been used to provide technological services for JSR's main customers. A laboratory containing a new clean room will be built, and by installing evaluation equipment and analytical instruments, product development to meet customers'needs can be consistently and locally undertaken. JSR will also ensure that prompt and accurate technological follow-ups are provided to customers.
Currently in China, there have been several plans to establish new LCD television plants, and the LCD panel market is expected to grow. The JSR Group will take measures to enhance its product development system, sales and technological service to Korea and China; and the new research laboratory to be established at JSR Micro Korea is one such part of these operations. JSR Micro Korea will strengthen its partnership with JSR (Shanghai), a subsidiary established this March in China. JSR Micro Korea will keep accurately informed about the fast-growing Chinese market, ensuring that prompt responses are provided to customers in expanding China.
