JSR Again Selected for “Ethibel Pioneer & Excellence” International Index for Socially Responsible Investment

CSR 11/26/2013
TOKYO, JAPAN – November 26, 2013 – JSR Corporation (President: Mitsunobu Koshiba) has once again been selected for inclusion in the “Ethibel Pioneer & Excellence” international index for socially responsible investment (SRI), an honor it has enjoyed since December 2010. Of the 369 companies (65 of which are Japanese companies) selected for the “Ethibel Excellence” index as of October 31, 2013, the top 124 companies (of which 23 are Japanese) constitute the “Ethibel Pioneer & Excellence” index, and JSR was the only Japanese company selected from the chemical sector.

Forum Ethibel, a non-profit organization based in Belgium, selects companies demonstrating outstanding corporate social responsibility for inclusion in the “Ethibel Pioneer & Excellence” index based on surveys conducted by the SRI research firm Vigeo. Selected companies are recognized as “CSR Pioneers,” a designation expected to help improve their corporate value. The selection process entails surveys on human rights, human resources, the environment, corporate behavior, corporate governance, and impact on communities, and JSR’s efforts in these areas all received high marks.

JSR’s CSR efforts have been well-received both in Japan and outside Japan, with JSR being selected for inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index Series as well as the Morningstar Socially Responsible Investment Index, a leading SRI indicator in use within Japan, and in September 2013 becoming one of only six Japanese companies to be selected for inclusion in the United Nations GlobalCompact 100 (“UN100”). The UN100 is a new index jointly compiled by the UN Global Compact and Sustainalytics, a European research organization, that comprises Global Compact member companies/groups selected on the basis of their adoption of the Global Compact’s ten principles, the commitment of their top management, and their profitability.

JSR will continue to ensure that its business activities respect the environment and human rights, and act with integrity as a good corporate citizen to prove itself worthy of the public’s trust.
