Current Status of JSR's Business Operations (As of March 16th)

CORPORATE 03/16/2011
Below is a report of the current status of JSR's business operations, as of 9am on March 16th (Wed), as a result of the Tohoku-area Pacific Coast Earthquake that occurred on March 11th 2011. As previously reported, all of our manufacturing operations are physically intact with the exception of the following two locations.

1. Chiba Plant (located in Ichihara City, Chiba)
The situation at the Chiba Plant remains the same as reported yesterday. The following is what we reported yesterday:
( The manufacturing facilities are currently under normal operations and no physical damages or personnel injuries/casualties have been observed. Adverse effects on our operations are possible due to the disasters in the Chiba chemical complex and energy supply limitations announced by Tokyo Electric Power Company. )
2. Kashima Plant (located in Kamisu City, Ibaraki)
The situation at the Kashima Plant remains the same as reported yesterday. We are continuing inspections to understand the extent of the damages in the warehouse facility and will resume product shipments from the Kashima Area as soon as possible. The following is what we reported yesterday:
( All manufacturing lines and manufacturing equipment were stopped by the automatic interlocks triggered by the earthquake. The industrial water supply is interrupted and no information is available at the moment regarding when it will resume. Our preliminary physical inspection revealed damages in some areas such as the loading berth facilities and a warehouse. We are unable to report at this stage when product shipment from the Kashima Area will resume. )
We will complete a thorough physical inspection, repair damages and undertake restart preparations before the Kashima Chemical Complex recovers operations.
