JSR to Enhance R&D for LCD Materials Also in Taiwan - Construction of New Research Laboratory at JSR Micro Taiwan -

TOKYO - 18 January 2011 - JSR Corporation (President: Mitsunobu Koshiba) has announced it will construct a new research laboratory at JSR Micro Taiwan Co., Ltd. (a wholly owned subsidiary of JSR; location: Central Taiwan Science Industrial Park, Yulin County, Taiwan). The new facility will enhance the research and development function at JSR Micro Taiwan, which manufactures and sells liquid crystal display (LCD) materials in Taiwan. The laboratory is scheduled to be completed in December 2011, and the amount of investment, including the establishment of laboratories and other costs related to the installation of evaluation equipment, is estimated at approximately ¥1.2 billion.
Taiwan has a major LCD panel market with the world's top manufacturers located there. This market is expanding in the field of touch-panel-related components as well as LCD materials.
Thus far, laboratory facilities at JSR Micro Taiwan, originally established in 2007, have been used to provide technological services for JSR's key customers in Taiwan. The construction of the new laboratory with a clean room and the installation of product-evaluation equipment will enable the entire process of product development to be conducted locally. Additionally, through feedback to an adjacent manufacturing section, an efficient framework will be established to swiftly accommodate customer demands in the local market. In the same fashion, technological support will be provided proactively at the local site to customers in related fields, including innovative display materials and touch panels other than LCD materials.

Additionally, the market in China is expected to grow where many plants are being constructed by LCD manufacturers, including major Japanese, South Korean, and Taiwan companies as well as local companies. The construction of the laboratory at JSR Micro Taiwan is a part of the Group's initiatives, following the construction of the laboratory at JSR Micro Korea, which is scheduled to be completed in June 2011.
