JSR Corporation ("JSR"; president: Yoshinori Yoshida) announces that, as its effort to prevent global warming, it has installed a photovoltaic power generation system with a capacity of 100kW (official maximum output) on the roof of the newly built welfare facilities at the North Gate, Yokkaichi Plant. Approximately 50 percent of annual electricity need at the new welfare facilities is expected to be generated by the photovoltaic power generation system. This is the first attempt by the JSR to introduce a system of this scale.
JSR, as an effort to prevent global warming, has been further promoting cuts in energy consumption at its plants, effective utilization of water resources and of chemical materials used as raw materials, prevention of discharging waste into atmosphere and water regions, and reduction in the amount of waste.
Equipped with the photovoltaic power generation system, the new welfare facilities include newly opened employees' cafeteria which was built to ease congestion and to save moving time due to the increase in the number of employees. The 560 photovoltaic battery modules aligned in parallel cover the entire roof. With the introduction of this system, emission of carbon dioxide is expected to be cut by 54 tons annually.
Building of the new welfare facilities was carried out as a part of undertakings to commemorate last year's 50th anniversary of the company's foundation.
