JM Energy to Hold Completion Ceremony for Yamanashi HQ Plant-the World's First Plant for Commercial-scale Production of Lithium Ion Capacitors 08/11/10
JSR Corporation ("JSR"; president: Yoshinori Yoshida) announces that its wholly owned subsidiary, JM Energy Corporation, engaging in the lithium ion capacitor business, will hold a ceremony to mark the completion of the Yamanashi headquarter plant in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan on November 11, 2008.

The Yamanashi headquarter plant will be the world's first plant for commercial-scale production of lithium ion capacitors. It will begin production this year with an initial target of 0.3 million cells per year. The production capacity will be gradually increased, depending on the demand situation, from 2009 onward. In parallel with the completion of the Yamanashi headquarter plant, JM Energy will transfer its research and development operation from Akishima City, Tokyo, to the Yamanashi headquarter plant to further enhance development functions and technological support system for customers.

In response to concerns over the dwindling supply of fossil fuel and a growing awareness of the environment in the market, lithium ion capacitors have been developed as innovative next-generation electricity storage devices that feature a large storage capacity and high-speed charge/discharge. Lithium ion capacitors are highly effective products that dramatically improve energy utilization efficiency. Currently, lithium ion capacitors are used in a wide range of applications, including automobiles, electric-power supply, solar- and wind-power generation, industrial machines, and office equipment. The market for lithium ion capacitors is expected to grow extensively.

The lithium ion capacitor business is one of the next-generation growth businesses in the field of environment and energy, as specified in JSR's midterm management plan "JUMP 2010."

Since its establishment in August 2007, JM Energy Corporation has developed, manufactured, and marketed lithium ion capacitors by utilizing a pilot plant in Akishima City, Tokyo. JM Energy has enjoyed highly favorable evaluations of its lithium ion capacitors due to such superior features as high density and high rated voltage.
