JSR to Reduce Production of Synthetic Rubber Products on Butadiene Shortage. 08/09/05
JSR Corporation (president: Yoshinori Yoshida) is to reduce the production of synthetic rubber, emulsions, and thermoplastic elastomer products due to a supply shortage of raw material butadiene.

The products to be reduced include SBR, BR, NBR, RB, and latex, all of which use butadiene as a primary raw material. Butadiene is produced from naphtha and is then combined with ethylene and propylene.

JSR's ethylene provider companies started production cuts in summer in response to a slowdown in the petrochemicals market in general. As a result, the production of butadiene has decreased. Against the backdrop of prospects of further output cutbacks, JSR decided to adjust its production from September onward.

JSR plans to determine the timing of production adjustments in accordance with the scale of the cutbacks and timing of ethylene providers.
