JSR Corporation (President: Yoshinori Yoshida) and Tri Chemical Laboratories Inc. (President: Jumpei Takenaka) have basically agreed to consider toll manufacturing of next-generation semiconductor process materials developed by JSR. This is the first step toward creating a system to provide innovative materials to the world's most advanced semiconductor manufacturing market. The challenge is achievable through a combination of JSR's proprietary semiconductor process materials and Tri Chemical's manufacturing technology for ultra fine chemicals.
The two companies are considering further alliance with a broader scope with respect to production and sales in order to provide innovative materials to the market by further maximizing the strengths of both companies.
The global semiconductor market is expected to grow continuously given the backdrop of the ever-increasing demand for electronic products in such fields as information electronics, automobiles, and digital consumer-electronics.
As the needs for miniaturization and high integration continue to increase in the semiconductor sector, the technological challenges regarding semiconductor design and manufacture likewise increase, becoming more demanding and complicated. Therefore, the environment surrounding the development of new semiconductors has become increasingly severe.
By joining forces, JSR-with its excellence in polymer technology and functional materials, and Tri Chemical-with its strength in ultra fine chemicals, will be able to provide superior materials for the most advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes. In addition to conventional photoresists and CMP materials, JSR is developing a CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) precursor that has the potential to be used for 22nm semiconductor manufacturing process. The two companies are currently discussing the possibility of toll manufacturing of this CVD precursor at Tri Chemical.
